Massive cuts to come – your chance to help stop them

Southwark Action Alert 16th December 2014

George Osborne’s Autumn Statement has revealed that public spending as a percentage of GDP is expected to fall to its lowest level since the 1930s. Eleven local strikes or protests happening this week alone show that opposition to cuts is continuing.

In January, plans to oppose cuts to council services will be developed; the ‘March for Homes’ will be publicised across the borough. If you can help, please urgently contact the organisers. Email southwarkdch@gmail.com asap to request leaflets to give to your neighbours, or to offer help with leafleting elsewhere.

***Please put in your diary the events not just happening this week but also the details of January’s housing demonstration, shown below.***

Southwark Action Alert 23 November 2014

Tomorrow, health workers across the country are on strike and they want you to come to their picket line to show your support for them, and for the National Health Service, which is under attack. Already, money has been collected across Southwark and messages sent to union reps organising tomorrow’s strike. Please visit a picket line (see details below) or reply to this email if you want to help with support for the next strike.

Southwark Adult Learning Service has finally abandoned its exorbitant ‘repeat fees’ and fully reinstated concessionary rates for people on benefits. This is a great vindication of a three-year campaign by students and shows that anti-cuts action can win.

Conferences and organising meetings are also taking place every week to discuss and plan resistance to cuts and austerity. Full details below.
