What is SSOS?

Southwark SOS is an independent organisation set up by Southwark Trade Union Council in 2010 to campaign against the cuts that were being introduced by the then-incoming Tory-Lib-Dem Coalition government.

In 2017, we still monitor cuts to services imposed by the local council and by central government, and seek to publicise both their impact and also the campaigns of action being undertaken by groups and individuals to oppose them. SSOS has also initiated its own campaigns, organised lobbies and protest events, and supports the campaigns of other anti-cuts and trade union groups by distributing their publicity material and by other practical solidarity work. We seeks to bring together residents and service-users who are affected by cuts and austerity, the workers in the service sector where cuts are made or threatened, and the organisations campaigning against cuts.

Southwark SOS has a regular email newsletter, a Facebook page and this website, all run by volunteers; activists and reps of affiliated community/anti-cuts/trade union groups are always welcome to contribute information to these media, or to discuss and plan opposition to cuts and austerity. More volunteers are needed to help with leafleting at local transport hubs and shopping centres so if you are willing to do this please email southwarksos@gmail.com
