BUILDING FOR 30 NOVEMBER STRIKES

Already more than two million people are set to strike against cuts to pensions on 30th November. The size of the majorities in favour of action, and many other indicators, show that opposition to the whole raft of government cuts is energising both trade unionists and the general public.

Leafleting and visiting local workplaces and community groups will go on right up to the strike day. Please invite a Southwark SOS speaker or a local trade unionist to talk to your colleagues about why 30th November is so important, contact us to arrange this.

We are helping to organise visiting of picket lines, a striker’s canteen and a feeder march on 30th so come to the Elephant and Castle and join trade unionists and supporters there. Wednesday 30th November

Public Sector Strike over Pensions. Picket lines across Southwark, London and nationally. Strikers and their supporters are assembling at London Road, Elephant & Castle at a ‘Strikers’ Canteen’ (10.30am -11.30) before marching to Lincoln’s Inn Fields, then main All-London demonstration to a rally on Victoria Embankment. What is SSOS?

Southwark SOS is an independent organisation set up by Southwark Trade Union Council in 2010 to campaign against the cuts that were being introduced by the then-incoming Tory-Lib-Dem Coalition government.

In 2017, we still monitor cuts to services imposed by the local council and by central government, and seek to publicise both their impact and also the campaigns of action being undertaken by groups and individuals to oppose them. SSOS has also initiated its own campaigns, organised lobbies and protest events, and supports the campaigns of other anti-cuts and trade union groups by distributing their publicity material and by other practical solidarity work. We seeks to bring together residents and service-users who are affected by cuts and austerity, the workers in the service sector where cuts are made or threatened, and the organisations campaigning against cuts.

Southwark SOS has a regular email newsletter, a Facebook page and this website, all run by volunteers; activists and reps of affiliated community/anti-cuts/trade union groups are always welcome to contribute information to these media, or to discuss and plan opposition to cuts and austerity. More volunteers are needed to help with leafleting at local transport hubs and shopping centres so if you are willing to do this please email southwarksos@gmail.com
