  1. The demo was about 200-strong: Lots of speeches from a wide variety of community/user groups, TU branches, coll/unis, and individuals. Lots of police and Community Wardens present (they prevented any entry to the building until the delegation went in), and placed restrictions on numbers allowed on the council steps, and instructions to demonstrators that they could not stand on the pavement outside the town hall! In fact, everybody stood their ground and ignored the instruction – some jumped over the wall to avoid the police who were blocking the entrances from the pavement. Eventually the main gates – previously locked! – were opened up (to cheers) and people came in and took over the space on the steps and forecourts.
